That title sounds dramatic, until you realise it was graffiti - by that upstart young Cartrain, no less. You see, a group of neighbours from Ferndale Area Residents Association are dedicated to keeping "our patch" clean. We hold regular litter picks, and paint over or wipe out graffiti. And last time out, I erased some of Cartrain's work. A sprayed "bomb" with George Bush's head in it was among the unsightly decor on a wall near to Leytonstone High Road overground station - and we painted over everything that was there.

Or for those of you who won't be celebrating Christmas tomorrow - happy Wednesday!

This year, there's a market in Leytonstone. Fantastic! It was promoted on the council's website as part of the "turning on the lights" Christmas events, and it runs for two weeks, from 8am to 8pm each day.

How about a £20,000 book?

"What's that large building at the end of my street?" That's what I often pondered as I walked my dog on Wanstead Flats. A large red brick building with "Leyton School Board" written on it, and pointy green iron railings all around.

There's a new doorstep-collection scam operating, and it's a bit smarter than the usual ones. I've just had a leaflet through my door requesting bags of clothes and bedding for the "Children's Welfare Foundation". This organization claims to “provide help and support for terminally ill babies and their families”. Brings tears to your eyes, doesn’t it? I would love to bring tears to their eyes, as this is a cynical con-trick.

Apparently, we could be stacking our dead one on top of the other in a matter of decades.

It's that time of the week again - that time when any vague semblance of control over one's sanity goes right out the newsroom window.

A local supermarket has banned anyone from taking shopping trolleys into their shop. You can't drink in the town square or surrounding area any more. What is it with this current rush to pettily prohibit all sorts of behaviour that isn't really hurting anyone? If you ask me (and hey, if you don't ask me I'll tell you anyway), these things are a diversion – so people can pretend, to themselves and the rest of us, that they're doing something about their problems, without actually doing anything too challenging about any serious issues.

Walthamstow’s photographic society, founded in 1894, isn’t just one of the oldest in the country, it’s also one of the most successful. Its free annual exhibition is on this week at St Mary's Welcome Centre in Walthamstow village: weekday evenings and all day Saturday 1 November.

As I'm going on holiday from tomorrow for the rest of the week and would, of course, never deprive the blogfan(s) of an entry, the usual weekly round-up of WFG frolics has been brought forward to today.

If there's one thing I've learned, after attending a private viewing of an art exhibition last night, it's that free champagne is a dangerous thing.

Did you go to Car Free Day in Leytonstone last month?

I've been out a-meeting and a-greeting in the last few days, which is unusual.

My colleagues have failed to learn that if they say something is "definitely not for the blog", I take that to mean "definitely for the blog".

What might Waltham Forest be like after the oil runs out… After the oil runs out?! The "Peak Oil" theory is complex, but put simply it's based on the fact that each oil well that's dug only has a certain amount of oil in it.
